If I had talent or the ambition, I’d write a lot about my favorite album from last year, The Monitor, and my favorite album from this year, Manhattan Murder Mystery - s/t. They were my favorite albums to play at dangerous volume, banging on my steering wheel when driving home late at night from work, looking forward to blaring them when I got home when I could slug beers and eat shitty...

Let’s say you are on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr and you say, “What I’d really like is some more Tumblr followers”…is that kind of like saying “What I’d really like to do is direct”

I went to see The Henry Clay People tonight because I learned they were playing for free as part of the Culture Collide Festival in Echo Park.
After arriving, I saw someone who may or may not have been in the band but they said “Don’t make any New Year’s Plans” so that was cool.
Then HCP played and it was ragged and tuff and fun. They played some new jams, some old jams...

The way we Like things now
While I was checking out facebook, twitter, tumblr and google reader, the usual sites I check out every day and get the majority of my information and news from, two recent bits of news kept popping up.
Nike getting ready to release the Back to the Future II shoe
Ben & Jerry’s releasing Schweddy Balls Ice Cream
If you check the internets with any sort of regularity, you have seen...

The ESPY’S and anyone talking about it can go to hell.
*exceptions - me just now for typing that and Seth Meyers, in general, and for his Frank McCourt jokes.

Pretty much no matter how early I get out of work, how late I get out of work, how my day went, how little sleep I got the night before, if you ask me to do something after work, I will probably say yes. If at any point during the day, any plans are discussed, I will probably say yes. If you ask me to do something during my walk out of the building and on the way to my car, I will probably say...

Some thoughts on the Titus Andronicus / Okkervil River show.
Titus Andronicus is a tough band to follow. Few bands rock harder or look like they are having more fun, especially Stickles and Amy Klein. Titus Andronicus is loaded with shout-along lyrics and wonderfully epic songs so it was tough to go to a group that was a bit more subdued and nuanced. Of course it didn’t help by any means...

Regardless if you like the Fleet Foxes or not, if you can’t relate to that quote at all, congratulations because you have everything figured out in the world, forever.

(vol.2)
In honor of the whole bloody affair, I re-purposed the photoshopped photo I posted before. There is a very good chance, perhaps a 100% chance that I will be the only one that finds this funny. I’ve made peace with that. I also thought it was funny calling something “my finest mixtape” then posting a follow-up.
Instead of posting a zip file, I did it thru...
At press time, the current bad-ass, epic mixtape I’m making and will be posting soon has a running time of one hour, six minutes and six seconds.

This the last part of the only 2010 music wrap-up...
The top two are in definite order. The rest, while in order, aren’t super firm and I don’t think I’m going to listen to 13 albums back to back to try and figure out with unwavering certainty which is my fifth favorite album compared to my seventh favorite.
15. Crazy for You - Best Coast
14. Lisbon - The Walkmen
13. Everything in Between - No Age
12. High Violet - The...

Let’s get it.
Top 31 Songs of 2010
31. Carried Away - The Deadly Syndrome. Cover of Television song, guitar face-melter.
30. Swing Sets and Neighborhoods - Moses Campbell. If I were in the game of predicting local bands success, I’d wager this crew would have a good 2011.
29. Little Golden Age - Wolf Parade. As I wrote on Facebook*, this is a Bruce Springsteen song that he...

This is the first part of the only Best of 2010...
I’ve been thinking about what my favorite concerts and shows were this year and trying to find some distinction between memorable / best / biggest occasion / most fun. I saw a few big deal type of concerts and a lot of small shows. Do big name, Event shows beat the sloppy but fun as shit, drunken sing-alongs in small clubs?
Top 10 Concerts of 2010
10. Broken Social Scene @ Amoeba
9. The...

I’m seeing the Local Natives on Saturday night. Last time I saw the Local Natives was for free at the last night of their Spaceland residency and I knew none of their songs and it was one of the most passionate, undeniablely live.com shows I’ve ever seen.
Now they are playing their 2nd sold out show at the Music Box and I’ve listened to Gorilla Manor a shit ton since that...

Ah, Fuck it
The awesome story of the day is obviously the story of the Jet Blue Steward / Flight Attedant that pulled the emergency slide and bailed from the plane and was later arrested.
No matter whatever the actual details are, it is an epic story and I think it’s awesome. Let’s take a look at two different links and do an old-fashioned journalistic type breakdown.

Put together another mixtape, not sure if it’s a great mixtape for the summer or if it’s just the end of July and I made a mixtape. It’s not very ‘summery’ for a mixtape that’s called Jams for July Vol. 2. I also don’t think it’s very creative, doesn’t have any new new jams nor does it unearth any forgotten jams from yesteryear. Partially, I...
